Visitando una parte menos conocida de Alemania

After Frankfurt, it was time to head to Haßloch, and trust me, I couldn’t have been happier!!
One of my best friends since 6th grade moved to this city to be with her husband.
She pretty much knows everything about me! And I love her for being the best listener to date.
She is the one person I wrote to, every week while I lived in Portugal.
Can you believe she saved on a diskette every single email I sent her over that year and gave it to me as a gift? All emails made 89 pages with size letter 8.
To make matters even better, I not only have her there but also another school girlfriend; long story short, their husbands were friends long before they met them.
Después de Fráncfort, llegó el momento de ir a Haßloch, y créeme, ¡no podría haber estado más feliz! Una de mis mejores amigas desde sexto grado se mudó a esta ciudad con su esposo.
¡Ella sabe todo sobre mí! Y la adoro por ser la mejor oyente hasta la fecha. Ella es la única persona a la que escribí cada semana mientras vivía en Portugal.
¿Puedes creer que guardó en un disquete todos los correos electrónicos que le envié ese año y me los dio como regalo? Todos los correos electrónicos sumaba 89 páginas sin espacios y con letra tamaño 8.
Para mejorar aún más las cosas, no solo la tengo a ella allí, sino también a otra gran amiga del cole que vive en la misma ciudad; En resumen, sus maridos eran amigos mucho antes de conocerlas.
So for a week, I was able to rest and recharge my batteries while also making day trips to close-by locations.
Haßloch is one hour and a few minutes away from Frankfurt; it is a small town with less than 50,000 people, located in Rhineland, known as western Germany.
Permanecí una semana allá, pude descansar y recargar mis baterías mientras hacíamos paseos cada día a lugares cercanos.
Haßloch está a solo una hora y unos minutos de Frankfurt; es una pequeña ciudad con menos de 50,000 habitantes, ubicada en Renania, conocida como Alemania occidental.

Speyer cathedral
One afternoon we went to Speyer, which was less than 30 minutes away.
The city’s main attraction is its Cathedral; it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as one of the most relevant Romanesque architecture structures in Europe.
They offer audio guided tours, and their history is impressive; The emperors of Germany are buried there for more than 300 years.

Una tarde paseamos hacia Speyer, que estaba a menos de 30 minutos.
La principal atracción de la ciudad es su Catedral. Es un Patrimonio Mundial de la UNESCO como una de las estructuras de arquitectura románica más relevantes de Europa.
Ofrecen visitas guiadas con audio y su historia es impresionante; Los emperadores de Alemania fueron enterrados allí desde hace más de 300 años.
Kurpfalz-Park
This nature park is very popular with families with small children, and I admit I think I had as much fun as the kids.
From wildlife animals, fun rides, Kurlpfalz Coaster, Magic carpets to enjoying a picnic surrounded by nature.
It is undoubtedly an excellent option for the summer months.

Parque Kurpfalz
Este parque natural es muy popular entre familias con pequeños, y admito que creo que me divertí tanto como los niños.
Desde animales salvajes, atracciones divertidas, un tobogán tipo montaña rusa, alfombras mágicas hasta lugares para disfrutar de un pícnic cómodamente. Sin duda es una excelente opción para los meses de verano.
I cooked my first Sancocho
Sancocho may be one of the most traditional meals in my country (The Dominican Republic). It is a broth with various meats and vegetables; we mostly eat it with a side of rice and a slice of avocado as a final touch.
As weirdly as this may sound, I am not a fan, don’t get me wrong, it tastes delicious, but growing up in a hot country, I never got into soups, however as I have gotten older, that has changed.
There is a saying or superstition in my country that if a pregnant woman has a food craving, she must have it, or the baby might be born with a birthmark resembling that meal.
My friend craved a Sancocho, so I made it happen, and she was pleasantly happy with the outcome.
¡Cocine mi primer sancocho!!
El sancocho es sin duda una de las comidas más tradicionales de mi país (República Dominicana). Es un caldo con diversas carnes y verduras; la mayoría de las veces lo comemos con arroz y una buena rodaja de aguacate como toque final.
Por extraño que parezca, no soy una fanática, no me malinterpreten, sabe delicioso, pero al crecer en un país caluroso, nunca aprecie las sopas, sin embargo, a medida que fui creciendo, eso cambió.
Hay un dicho o creencia en mi país, que dice que si una mujer embarazada tiene un antojo de comida, debe tenerlo, o el bebé podría nacer con una marca de nacimiento que se parecerá a esa comida.
Mi amiga ansiaba un Sancocho, así que lo hice y ella estaba gratamente feliz con el resultado.
Heidelberg
This town is most well known for its university and the breathtaking Castle.
Heidelberg’s university is the oldest in Germany and one of the oldest in the world. Impressive right?

Esta ciudad es muy conocida por su universidad y su impresionante castillo.
La universidad de Heidelberg es la más antigua de Alemania y de las más antiguas del mundo. Increíble¿verdad?
Here is the Heidelberg Bridge Monkey, which has become a tourist attraction.
If you touch the mirror, you will become wealthy, if you touch the horns, you will return to Heidelberg, and if you touch the mice (on the left), you will be very fertile. I only touched the mirror!!…hahaha 😆! I will report back and let you know if it comes true.
Aquí está el mono del puente de Heidelberg, que se ha convertido en una atracción turística.
Se dice que si tocas el espejo te harás rico, si tocas los cuernos volverás a Heidelberg y si tocas el ratón (Esta a la Izq.) junto al Mono, serás muy fértil. Que te digo… solo toqué el espejo … ¡jajaja!😆 Te informaré y te haré saber si se hace realidad.

- Königstuhl — The King’s Seat
It’s a hill where you can catch breathtaking views of Heidelberg to the Rhine Valley.
To reach the top, you take the Heidelberg Mountain rail; the funicular is the same one you will take to get to the Castle.
- Königstuhl – El asiento del rey
Es una colina desde la que puedes contemplar las hermosas vistas de Heidelberg hasta el valle del Rin.
Para llegar a la cima, se toma el tren de montaña de Heidelberg; el funicular es el mismo que tomarás para llegar al Castillo.
2. Heidelberg Castle
The Castle is above the city, so as you are arriving you get to see how imposing and beautiful it is.
It represents an example of German Renaissance Architecture.The upper part of the Castle is in ruins due to lightning strikes 😯.
There you will get to see its beautiful gardens, city views, the world’s largest wine barrel, and the Apothecary Museum, where you will get to learn the history of pharmacies and dispensaries.
2. Castillo de Heidelberg
El castillo está por encima de la ciudad, por lo que a medida que llegas, puedes ver lo imponente y hermoso que es.
Representa un ejemplo de la arquitectura renacentista alemana. La parte superior del Castillo está en ruinas debido a una tormenta de rayos…😯
Allí podrás ver sus hermosos jardines, vistas de la ciudad, el barril de vino más grande del mundo y el Museo del Boticario, donde podrás conocer la historia de las farmacias y dispensarios.

It’s a fun amusement park located only 15 minutes away from Haßloch.
It would be best to arrive as earliest as possible, throughout the day the busier it gets, and you might experience long lines for rides.

Es un divertido parque de diversiones ubicado a solo 15 minutos de Haßloch.
Lo mejor es llegar a primeras hora de la mañana, a lo largo del día, llega mucha gente, y es posible que experimentes largas colas para las atracciones.
Can you believe we went to all these places in just a few days!
I am thankful to my friends, their husbands, and family for inviting me over and showing me these places that perhaps I would have never known.
The value of friendships along your travels, especially long-term travel, makes all the difference in the world; I notice I sleep more, and my body releases stress I didn’t even know I was carrying.
Then again, I had to say goodbye and continue my journey, next stop, Berlin!
¿Puedes creer que fuimos a todos estos lugares y más en solo unos días?
Agradezco a mis amigas, sus esposos y familiares por invitarme y mostrarme estos lugares que quizás nunca hubiera conocido.
El valor de las amistades a lo largo de los viajes, especialmente viajando sola, hacen toda la diferencia; Noto que duermo más y mi cuerpo libera estrés que ni siquiera sabía que estaba cargando.
Una vez más, llego la despedida y continuar mi viaje por Alemania , ¡próxima parada, Berlín!
