After Switzerland, it was time to head to Germany, first stop: Frankfurt am Main!
After a four-hour train ride from Bern, I arrived at my destination, where my gracious friend was waiting for me.
I met a wonderful Romanian girl in Brazil through friends; here is proof of how small the world is; we met at Barra da Tijuca in Rio and then hung out in Buenos Aires. Once I shared my next continent was Europe, she invited me to visit her in Frankfurt.
Frankfurt am Main is best known as the business and finance capital of Germany. Its full name means Frankfurt on the Main; Main is the river where the city lies.
A fun fact I learned was that the business center is known as Mainhattan; it’s a blend of Main (River) and Manhattan, a reference to the city’s similarities to NYC’s skyline with highrise buildings and skyscrapers.

Después de Suiza, llegó el momento de dirigirme hacia Alemania, primera parada: ¡Fráncfort del Meno!
Después de un viaje en tren de más de cuatro horas, llegué a mi destino, donde mi querida amiga me esperaba.
Conocí a amiga Rumana en Brasil a través de amigos; he aquí una prueba de lo pequeño que es el mundo; Nos conocimos en Barra da Tijuca en Río, luego compartimos en Buenos Aires y una vez que le dije que mi próximo continente era Europa, me invitó a visitarla.
Frankfurt am Main es mejor conocida como la capital empresarial y financiera de Alemania. Su nombre completo significa Fráncfort del Meno; Meno es el río donde se encuentra la ciudad.
Un hecho interesante que aprendí fue que el centro de negocios se conoce como Mainhattan; es una mezcla de Main (el río) y Manhattan, una referencia a las similitudes de la ciudad con la ciudad de Nueva York por sus rascacielos y edificios de gran altura.

It’s a public square right in front of Römer, the city hall.
The colorful square was reconstructed after WWII, which lets you imagine how beautiful it must have been before the war.
During the summer months, street markets take place there as well as the Christmas market.

2. Main Tower
Check out the city views from the only skyscraper with an observatory open to the public, located in the 4th tallest building in the city and all of Germany.
Europe is not a fan of skyscrapers. Let’s face it, Europe’s architecture is far too beautiful to be surrounded by modern buildings; however, most of the downtown area disappeared during WWII, so there was not much resistance to the construction.
The day we visited was not crowded at all, we paid only EUR 5, which I thought was very reasonable, now it’s EUR 7.50.
2. Torre del Meno
Echa un vistazo a las vistas de la ciudad desde el único rascacielos con un observatorio abierto al público, ubicado en el cuarto edificio más alto de la ciudad y de toda Alemania.
Europa no es fanática de los rascacielos y seamos honestos, la arquitectura Europea es demasiado hermosa para estar rodeada de edificios modernos; sin embargo, la mayor parte del centro de la ciudad desapareció durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, por lo que no hubo mucha resistencia a la construcción de modernos edificios.
El día que visitamos fue excelente, se sube rapidísimo y solo pagamos 5 euros, lo que me pareció muy razonable, ahora son 7,50 euros.
3. Frau Rascher Fountain
Walk around The Quaint, the historic area of Sachsenhausen, where you will find streets packed with pubs serving the city’s most famous drink: Apfelwein (Apple Wine).
While you are there, make sure to look for Frau Rascher Fountain, it is so funny when the statue of this old german lady randomly throws water out to people walking by. The water comes out of her mouth, so it’s as if she is spitting on you, you can find it in klappergasse.
Frau Rauscher means partly fermented cider, the story says that a homeless german lady would walk the streets buzzed on the apple wine she would steal from the drinkers, and if someone caught her, she would spit the cider back on their face. There’s even a german song about her.
3. Fuente Frau Rascher
Camina por la colorida zona histórica de Sachsenhausen, donde encontrarás calles llenas de pequeños bares que sirven la bebida más famosa de la ciudad: Apfelwein (vino de manzana).
Mientras estés allí, asegúrate de buscar la Fuente Frau Rascher, es muy gracioso cuando la estatua de esta anciana alemana arroja agua al azar a la gente que pasa. El agua sale de su boca, por lo que es como si te estuviera escupiendo, está localizada en klappergasse.
Frau Rauscher significa sidra parcialmente fermentada, la historia dice que una señora alemana sin hogar caminaba por las calles borracha con el vino de manzana que robaba a los bebedores, y si alguien la atrapaba, escupía la sidra en su cara. Incluso hay una canción alemana sobre ella.
4. The Bull and Bear
The Bronze sculptures known in German as “Bulle und Bär” are right outside the stock exchange and represent the world’s stock market’s ups and downs.

5. Spiderman statues
Okay, so this one was pretty cool and unexpected; as I mentioned before, downtown Frankfurt is called Mainhattan, and an artist thought that a very famous NYC hero should be in town too.
There are a total of seven spidermen hidden around the city, and I was able to see two!
Looking for all seven could be a fun adventure for a day. Just imagining little kids see it must be very funny.
The Statues are on rooftops or sides of buildings, which makes them look pretty realistic.

Esto fue genial e inesperado; como mencioné antes, el centro de Frankfurt se llama Mainhattan, y un artista pensó que un héroe muy famoso de Nueva York también debería estar en la ciudad.
Hay un total de siete hombres araña escondidos por toda la ciudad, ¡yo pude ver dos!
Buscar los siete podría ser una divertida aventura de un día.
Imagino lo gracioso que debe ser ver la cara de niños al encontrarse con las esculturas, las cuales están en los tejados o en los costados de los edificios, lo que las hace parecer bastante realistas.
6. Palmergarten
It is one of three Botanical gardens in Frankfurt; it is perfect for a leisurely walk to admire nature’s beauty, also a great stop for a break and some desserts.
My favorite place was the Korean Gardens; you can confuse family by sending pictures and saying you changed your travel destination last-minute…hahaha!

Mi lugar favorito fue los jardines coreanos; puedes confundir a la familia enviando fotos y diciendo que cambiaste tu destino de viaje en el último minuto … ¡jajaja!
7. Body of Knowledge
It is a gorgeous sculpture located at Goethe University made by the Spanish artist & Sculptor Jaume Plensa.
His artwork is all over the world and many in public places like this one.
Body of Knowledge is the third sculpture I’ve seen from him. If you have been to Chicago and walked around The Crown Fountain, you have seen his work too.
Here are a few words that Jaume said when describing this sculpture:

7. Cuerpo de conocimientos
Es una hermosa escultura ubicada en la Universidad Goethe, hecha por el artista y escultor español Jaume Plensa.
Sus obras de arte está por todo el mundo y muchas en lugares públicos como este. Cuerpo de conocimiento es la tercera obra de arte que he tenido la oportunidad ver en persona. Si has estado en Chicago y ha caminado por The Crown Fountain, también has visto su trabajo.
Aquí hay algunas palabras que dijo Jaume al describir esta escultura:

8. Cream Music
Whether you are a music fan or not, I would say you have to check this place out.
Cream Music’s first name was Musikhaus B. Hummel until WWI ended.
World-renowned artists like Elvis Presley, John Lennon, The Rolling Stones, Percy Sledge, and Frank Sinatra have walked into that store and purchased guitars and other equipment.

9. Kleinmarkthalle
If you consider yourself a food lover, then a walk around this food hall is a must!
The market has well more than 100 stalls serving all kinds of fresh food, produce, and even flowers. You would be able to enjoy many regional dishes, including the famous “green sauce.”
It is open six days a week except on Sundays.

10. Euro-Skulptur
The Euro sculpture is one of the most photographed objects in Frankfurt.
The sculpture was created at the end of the 1990’s before the Euro was officially launched and it’s lights were first lighted up in the new year of 2001/2002 when the Euro was introduced as the new currency.
