Nothing says welcome back home like going to Boca Chica straight from the airport to have some street food by the beach. Fried Yaniqueque, fresh fish, plantains, sweet potato, and for the drinkers..a cold Presidente would be the way to go.
Yaniqueque is a fried dough and I learned the funniest story about it, the name supposedly comes from Johnny Cakes, but of course, we just gave it the Dominican pronunciation…haha!
Nada dice bienvenida de regreso como ir a Boca Chica directo del aeropuerto a comer a orillas de la playa y el menú debe constituir de Yaniqueques, pescado, plátano, batata frita y para los que toman…una cerveza presidente bien fría. Me enteré de la supuesta historia de donde viene el nombre de Yaniqueques (Harina frita) y es de Johnny cakes, pero claro…nosotros debimos darle la pronunciación dominicana..jaja!

Interesting fact- The name Mangú comes from the West African word Magusi, which is described as any smashed vegetable.
Aquí esta una muestra de un verdadero desayuno dominicano, mejor conocido como los tres golpes, Mangú con cebollas(plátano majado) con queso, salami y huevo frito.
No puede faltar un jugo natural, de la gran variedad que puedes disfrutar,los más populares son limonada, chinola y cereza.
Un dato interesante es que el nombre Mangú viene de la palabra Mangusi del Oeste africano, que significa cualquier vegetal que es majado.
Wanted to go to the Haitises National Park and nobody from my family wanted to go, so I found a tour and went by myself but my wonderful dad dropped me off at the meeting point.
Taking this picture got me a little choked up because it’s an image that takes me back to my childhood, still on my 30’s I am his little girl.
Yo quería ir al Parque Nacional Los Haítises y nadie de mi familia quería ir, así que busqué un Tour y me fui, pero mi maravilloso padre me llevo al punto de encuentro. Mientras el autobús partía tomé esta foto y el corazón me dió un vuelco, porque es una imagen que me transporta a mi niñez, aun en mis 30’s soy su pequeña.
There is a 3-hour drive from Santo Domingo to Los Haítises National park, located in the Hato Mayor Province, we arrived at Altos de Caño Hondo to take the Kayaks to the park.
De Santo Domingo a los Haítises toma 3 horas de carretera, el parque se encuentra en la provincia de Hato Mayor, llegamos a Altos de Caño Hondo para de ahí irnos de Kayak hacia el parque.
Our eco-adventure started by exploring gorgeous mangroves and wildlife spotting while making our way to San Lorenzo Bay.

We made it to San Lorezo Bay to explore the beautiful limestone caves, islands, and wildlife.

It was cloudy but luckily the rain started once we were in the caves and yes it was a bit of a long way but totally doable! You can also rent a boat should you prefer that.
Fue un día nublado pero por suerte la lluvia cayo cuando estábamos en las cuevas y sí había que remar mucho pero de que se puede…se puede! Puedes hacer el tour en un bote si prefieres.

Not joking on my plantain requirement… Spaghetti with a red sauce my mom makes which is perfect and avocado.
No relajo en cuanto a mis plátanos, espaguetis con salsa roja receta de mami y aguacate
Back home enjoying one of my many favorites, rice with noodles, fried sweet plantains, pork chops in an orange juice sauce and avocado…perfection if you ask me.
De regreso a casa disfrutando uno de mis múltiples platos favoritos, arroz con fideos, plátano maduro frito, chuletas en jugo de naranja y aguacate…perfección si me preguntas a mi.
Growing up I needed to have sweet fried plantains for lunch and if I didn’t I would be sad…talking about being spoiled… Rice with corn, perfectly crunchy sweet plantains, avocado and fish with white sauce.
Durante mi niñez yo necesitaba que mi almuerzo siempre fuera acompañado de plátanos maduros fritos siempre, si no había me ponía triste…hablando de niñerías. Rico arroz con maíz, plátanos maduros crujientes, aguacate y pescado en salsa blanca.
