A day in Capri Italy July 16th, 2016
During my stay in Positano, I couldn’t miss the opportunity to catch a ferry and visit Capri. Capri is a small island in the Tyrrhenian sea, located only 30 to 45 minutes away from Positano. It is a world-renowned destination to see and be seen, where the rich and famous go to relax and shop during the summer months. A day to explore the main attractions is certainly not enough, however considering the limited ferry options and high demand for tickets, I got to see/do as much as time allowed, the next best option was to stay and sleep on a bench…hahaha!! The island tends to be sold out in July and August as those are their busiest months.
So, from a ferry ride, funicular ride, long walks, gorgeous views of the Faraglioni, and a boat ride, here is my list of must-do:
- *Catch a ferry ride to Capri, from wherever you are: Positano, Amalfi, Ischia, or Naples. Purchase ferry tickets in advance as they sell out fast.
- *From Marina Grande catch the funicular to the city of Capri
- *Take some snaps of the gorgeous view from Capri’s Piazzetta.
- *Indulge in the unique window-shopping experience of your life, wherein Via Camerelle you will see the largest concentration of high-end fashion in such a short space.
- *Enjoy a stroll around Augustus Gardens, where you will get that epic shot of the famous Faraglioni
- *Grab lunch, a snack, or a coffee at the Piazzetta
- *Take a boat ride to see: the Faraglioni, the Blue Grotto, White Grotto, Marina Piccola, and beautiful Capri from a different angle
- *When on the boat, try not to blink when it starts turning to the right of the island as you might miss the statue of scugnizzo Gennarino (Missed to load this pic, and now is not possible)A few more things you should do, that I planned to do, but missed due to time restraints
, are: - *Catch a bus to Anacapri
- *Explore Villa San Michele
- *Catch the old-style chairlift to Monte Solaro, the highest point of all of Capri.
After catching the last ferry to Positano, we enjoyed dinner in Spiaggia Grande, where I stayed for a few hours to take in the last views, as it was my last day. Before I started backpacking, I read many articles and learned you could ask your hostel if there is any work available in exchange for a stay or a discount and so I did…check out the last picture to see my job for the night, I was as excited as a teenager on their first paying job ever. The next morning, I left for Milan, with a must-do stop at Pompei.

Durante mi estadía en Positano, no podía perder la oportunidad de tomar un ferry y visitar Capri. Capri es una pequeña isla en el mar Tirreno, ubicada a solo 30/45 minutos de Positano. Es mundialmente reconocida como destino para ver y ser visto, donde los ricos y famosos van a relajarse e ir de compras durante los meses de verano. Un día para explorar las principales atracciones ciertamente no es suficiente, pero considerando las opciones limitadas de ferry y la alta demanda de boletos, pude ver/hacer todo lo que el tiempo me permitió, la segunda opción era quedarme y dormir en un banco… ¡jajaja!! La isla tiende a estar sobrevendida en julio y agosto, ya que son los meses de mayor demanda. Desde un viaje en ferry, subir en funicular, largas caminatas, hermosas vistas de los farallones y un paseo en bote, aquí esta mi lista de lo que debes hacer:*Toma un ferry a Capri, desde donde te encuentres: Positano, Amalfi, Ischia o Nápoles. Compra boletos de ferry con anticipación, ya que podrían agotarse.
*Desde Marina Grande toma el funicular a la ciudad de Capri.
*Tomate algunas fotos desde la Piazzetta de Capri y de sus impresionantes vistas.
*Disfruta de la mayor experiencia de mirar escaparates de tu vida, donde en Via Camerelle verás la mayor concentración de tiendas de alta costura en un corto espacio. Nunca sabes a quién te podrías encontrar.
*Camina por los jardines de Augustus, donde obtendrás esa foto épica de los famosos farallones sumergidos en el océano.
*Disfruta del almuerzo, un refrigerio o un café en la Piazzetta
*Haz un paseo en bote para ver: los Farallones, la Gruta Azul, la Gruta Blanca, Marina Piccola y Capri desde el agua.
*Cuando estés en el barco, intenta no parpadear cuando comience a girar a la derecha de la isla, ya que podrías perder oportunidad de ver la estatua del scugnizzo Gennarino.
Algunas cosas más que deberías de hacer, que no tuve la oportunidad, debido a restricciones de tiempo 
, son:
*Toma un autobús a Anacapri
*Explora la Villa San Michele
*Haz el paseo en telesilla de estilo antiguo hasta Monte Solaro, el punto más alto de Capri De regreso a Positano, disfrutamos de una cena en Spiaggia Grande, donde me quedé unas horas tumbada en la arena admirando las vistas, ya que era mi último noche. Antes de comenzar mi viaje de mochilera, leí muchos artículos y aprendí que podías preguntarle a tu hostal si hay algún trabajo posible a cambio de estancia o descuento y así lo hice … mira la última foto para que veas mi trabajo por una noche…yo estaba tan emocionada como un adolescente en su primer trabajo remunerado. A la mañana siguiente, partí camino a Milano, con una parada obligatoria a Pompeya.

Mi compañera brasileña de viaje de un día, la noche anterior hablamos un poco y ambas queríamos ir a Capri … así que lo hicimos.

Unfortunately, the tie was very high, so we were not able to visit the Blue Grotto, however, I am glad they take that seriously. A couple of years back a tourist broke his neck entering the cave as a boat tour went inside disregarding the issues a high tie could cause.

Desafortunadamente, la marea estaba alta, por lo que no pudimos visitar la Gruta Azul, sin embargo, me alegra que se lo tomen en serio. Hace un par de años, un turista se rompió el cuello al entrar en la cueva con la marea alta, un bote entraba sin tener en cuenta los problemas que podría causar la marea.

The White Grotto is a sea cave that got it’s name from white incrustations and from clusters of stalactites that look white, that hang from the sides and roof.
La Gruta Blanca es una cueva marina que recibe su nombre de incrustaciones blancas y de grupos de estalactitas del mismo color, que cuelgan de los lados y el techo.

And here I am as excited as can be, for becoming a bartender for 3 hours, luckily it was only beer and wine…hahaha! As I barely drink, I would have been the wrong person for mixing drinks.
At first, the owner offered 3 hours for a 50% discount, but at the end of the night, he said you can just go to the room and he even offered the opportunity to stay working but for a month or two minimum.
I would have loved that but since I can only stay in Schengen countries for a maximum of 90 days in 6 months…I had to decline. Limited time and too many places to see.
Y aquí estoy emocionada, emocionada de más, por convertirme en bartender por 3 horas, por suerte solo servía cerveza y vino … ¡jajaja! Como apenas bebo, no habría sido la persona adecuada para preparer cócteles.
Al principio, el propietario ofreció 3 horas por un 50% de descuento, pero al final de la noche, me dijo simplemente :puedes irte a la habitación y no te preocupes,incluso me ofreció la oportunidad de seguir trabajando, pero por un mes o dos como mínimo.
Me hubiera encantado, pero como solo puedo quedarme en los países Schengen durante un máximo de 90 días en 6 meses … tuve que rechazar.
Tiempo limitado y demasiados lugares para ver.
