4 CIUDADES QUE DEBES VISITAR EN SUIZA
Switzerland was not on my list of countries to visit as a backpacker, as I knew it would be better to see on a separate trip; however, a dear friend from University was kind enough to host me for a few days to check it out. She is such a fantastic planner; she made itineraries for me, and trust me, for Switzerland, you do need it to make the most of your time and buck.
It is not a secret that Switzerland is pricey; a one-way train ride to another city can be 45 euros; however, if you plan in advance, there are discount opportunities you can take advantage of.
The Swiss travel pass, which starts at about US$250 for three days, offers unlimited service (train, trans, boat rides). There is a Saver day pass option that allows unlimited travel for one day; I got two of those during my visit for US$50 each.
Suiza no estaba en mi lista de países para visitar como mochilera, ya que sabía que sería mejor visitar en un viaje aparte; sin embargo, una querida amiga de la Universidad tuvo la amabilidad de hospedarme unos días y decidí visitar. Schaffhausen

This impressive waterfall is one of Europe’s largest waterfall, and it’s only a two-hour train ride from Bern.
Once you go, you will see why it is obviously one of the country’s top attractions.
From Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall on the southern side, you get to be so close you feel the water drizzle almost like light rain.
You can also walk the rail bridge over the waterfalls, so you get to see it from every angle.
During the summer months is the best time to visit, because the water flows at 600,000 liters per second, the most substantial flow in the entire year, during winter months is only 250,000 liters per second.
In the summer, you can also enjoy any of the multiple boat rides available, from crossing the waterfalls to actually stopping at Rheinfallfelsen, which is the rock in the middle of the waterfall, which is pretty insane.

Schaffhausen

Esta impresionante cascada es una de las cascadas más grandes de Europa y está a solo dos horas en tren de Berna.
Una vez que vayas, verás por qué es una de las principales atracciones del país.
Desde Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall en el lado sur, puedes estar tan cerca que sientes que el agua llovizna sobre ti. También puedes caminar por el puente ferroviario sobre las cascadas, para que puedas verlas desde todos los ángulos.
Durante los meses de verano es la mejor época para visitar, porque el agua fluye a 600.000 litros por segundo, el caudal más sustancial en todo el año, durante los meses de invierno es de solo 250.000 litros por segundo.
En el verano, también puedes disfrutar de cualquiera de los múltiples paseos en bote disponibles, desde cruzar las cascadas hasta detenerte en Rheinfallfelsen, que es la roca en el medio de la cascada, que es bastante increíble (debes tener zapatos que no resbalen)
-Fortaleza de Munot
Es una fortaleza de más de 400 años que ha protegido la ciudad de Schaffhausen desde entonces. Una vez en la ciudad, ¡no te lo puedes perder! El fuerte está a unos pasos de la estación de tren, y cuando llegues a la cima, podrás disfrutar de las vistas de la ciudad y del río Rin. Un detalle interesante es que el guardián del fuerte toca la campana de Munot todas las noches a las 9:00 pm durante 5 minutos; es una tradición que se lleva a cabo desde el siglo XVI.
From Schaffhausen, I took a scenic boat ride to Stein Am Rhein, and it was just what I needed; it was a reminder to slow down and relax.
It was a beautiful way to enjoy nature and see life by the river, from people having fun doing water sports, picnics and even get a glimpse of the German side across the river.
Desde Schaffhausen, tomé un pintoresco paseo en barco hasta Stein Am Rhein, y era justo lo que necesitaba; fue un recordatorio de tomarlo con calma y relajarme.
Fue una manera hermosa de disfrutar de la naturaleza y ver la vida junto al río, de la gente divirtiéndose haciendo deportes acuáticos, pícnics e incluso de echar un vistazo al lado alemán a un lado del río.
Stein Am Rhein
Stein Am Rhein is a gorgeous little town, famous for its well-preserved medieval center, turned into a pedestrian area for visitors; a stroll there would have you feeling like you traveled back in time.

Geneva
What can I say about Geneva?
Before visiting, I think it was the only city in Switzerland I can recall from my childhood, perhaps from watching TV, as the UN European headquarters are there and the Red Cross’s, also founded in that city.
I was looking forward to seeing the famous Lake Geneva that Switzerland and France get to share, mainly for its water fountain: Jet d’Eau.
I am not going to lie, there is a lot to do there, but I woke up late and only had the chance to enjoy a relaxing lunch by the lake and see the fountain, as I had scheduled a scenic train ride that I couldn’t miss.
Ginebra
¿Qué puedo decirte de Ginebra?
Antes de visitar, creo que era la única ciudad de Suiza que puedo recordar de mi infancia, quizás gracias a la televisión, ya que allí está la sede europea de la ONU y de la Cruz Roja, la cual fue fundada en esa ciudad.
Tenía muchas ganas de ver el famoso lago de Ginebra que Suiza y Francia comparten, principalmente por su fuente de agua: Jet d’Eau.
No te voy a mentir, hay mucho que hacer allí, pero me desperté tarde y solo tuve la oportunidad de disfrutar de un almuerzo relajante junto al lago y ver la fuente, ya que había programado un viaje en tren panorámico que no me podía perder.
Bern

Berna

-After a long day walking around the city, a highlight was to relax and dip my feet in the Aare river. I did not expect to see locals swimming along and on floats cruising by; it must be super fun in the summer months. Of course, this activity should only be done by good swimmers.
- Después de un largo día caminando por la ciudad, quitarme las sandalias y sumergir mis pies en el río Aare fue una delicia. No esperaba ver a los lugareños nadando y en flotadores pasando por el río; debe ser muy divertido en los meses de verano. Por supuesto, esta actividad solo debe ser realizada por excelentes nadadores.
- Visiting the Gurten was fantastic, from riding its funicular to the top of the mountain, seeing Bern from a different viewpoint. Still, the coolest part for the child in me was finally getting to ride a toboggan down the hill. It was one of the things I wanted to do while in Switzerland, and I got the chance to do it on my last day.
Visitar el Gurten fue fantástico, desde montar su funicular hasta la cima de la montaña y ver Berna desde un punto de vista diferente, pero la parte más genial fue montar un tobogán cuesta abajo. Era una de las actividades que quería hacer en Suiza, y lo pude hacer en mi último día.
There are many reasons I should return to Switzerland as I didn’t make it to Zürich, Lucerne, Basel, Zermatt, and Lausanne, to name a few.
